Port Aransas votes to improve the city - showing the area's long term commitment to making the city a better place for residents and tourists. 

City Manager Michael Kovacs said the bond passing was a key part of the overall plan to improve the city.

Port Aransas is becoming a more popular vacation and second home hot spot for Texans with its central location, wide beaches, huge dunes and conservative setback lines.

Becky Corder, broker for Port Aransas' leading real estate company, says she is receiving more calls from the Galveston and South Padre areas from people seeking a safer location from hurricanes.

The $4.9 million in bonds to repair or rebuild 45 roads and construction could begin in 2009.
